Black Sunday Film Festival Announces 2024 Line Up

We are delighted to announce the full line up for our 5th edition, taking place at Everyman Chelmsford.

Proceedings commence on the evening of Thursday, 25th January with the Black Sunday Mixer, a celebratory film fan and industry member event that will take place at local hot spot Voodoo Keller, and is hosted by The Independent Horror Society.

Friday evening then sees Black Sunday takeover the Everyman venue with Teresa Sutherland’s incredible Fantasia hit LOVELY, DARK AND DEEP opening proceedings. Then follows two full days of genre goodness on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday is opened by the UK premieres of Justin MacGregor’ THE FOUNDER EFFECT (starring the legendary Rick Edwards and THE ROOM’s very own Greg Sestero), and Baatar Batsukh’s Mongolian shocker ABERRANCE.  Then follows the Essex premieres of James Morris’ slasher HE NEVER LEFT, Gabriel Bienczycki & Richard Karpala’s FALLING STARS and Mary Dauterman’s madcap cat caper BOOGER.

The carnage continues on Sunday with even more Essex premieres, with Stuart Sparke’s smash-hit symphony of gore and bedlam HOW TO KILL MONSTERS, Ryan Ward’s DAUGHTER OF THE SUN and Raymond Wood’s FACELESS AFTER DARK (co-written and starring genre favourite Jenna Kanell). We are also delighted to be able to present the European premiere of Mitchell Tolliday’s Rock and Roll anthology MURDER BALLADS: HOW TO MAKE IT IN ROCK ‘N’ ROLL, having originally shown the short concept Everything Is Going To Be Fine back in 2021.

The festival will be closed out, as is now tradition, with the Cult Classic Secret Screening presented by Arrow Video.

As well as our kick-ass line up of features, we’re also packing in a superb line up of 16 short films from all over the world, that will be shown ahead of each of our features. From the UK we have Toryn Westcott’s ARGH!, Craig Tonks’ BLACK AS BEFORE, Alex Mathieson’s DEATH DATE, Samantha O’Rourke’s THE GIRL WITH THE HAUNTED VAGINA, Brendan Cleves’ KNOCK KNOCK (KNOCK), Tony Hipwell’s THE LURE, Jack Parr’s THE MIDNIGHT SLEEPOVER CLUB and Thomas Longstaff’s TOAST.

Then from the US and Canada we welcome Kassy Gascho’s #BOSSBABE, Brian Quintero’s OLD TIMERS, Jenna Kanell’s TRAP DOOR IN THE SUN, Conscian Morgan’s NZU and Logan Dunn’s TERRA’S WALTZ, with Bastiaan Rook’s AMY & I,  Antonin Domage’s DO NOT CLOSE ANYTHING and Daniele Nicolosi’s SCOMPARIRE completing the line up from The Netherlands, France and Italy respectively

We are also incredibly proud to be supporting the next generation of Essex filmmakers by completing our shorts programme with a selection of films made by Film Production students at Chelmsford College.

Tickets go on sale January 9th, and the full schedule has now been released. We look forward to seeing you there!
